Fordham crash victim named as Anthony Rowlands, 32, from Soham

A motorist who died following a collision between his van and a lorry in Fordham has been named as 32-year-old Anthony Rowlands, from Soham.

His white Ford Escort van and a white Volvo lorry carrying bales of straw were in collision near Chalk Farm, in Station Road, at about 7.15am yesterday morning (Thursday).

The driver of the lorry, a 24-year-old man from Barnstaple in North Devon, was not injured.

The road was closed into the afternoon while emergency services worked at the scene.

Fire crews from Soham, Burwell and Newmarket were called to the scene and cut Mr Rowlands from his van using hydraulic cutting equipment, but he died at the scene.

Police are investigating what happened are are appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision, or saw both vehicles prior to it, to contact Sgt Paul Tanner at Cambridgeshire Police’s Collision Investigation Unit, on 101.
