Two local foodbanks have received a £1,000 donation following a lecture by the former Ardchbishop of Canterbury Dr Rowan Williams at St Mary’s Church in Burwell.
Dr Williams is patron of the Ely and Cambridge foodbanks and spoke to the audience of around 200 about how important they were.
A collection at the lecture raised £780 which the Churches Together organisation made up to £1000. Dr Williams said that it was an important Christian duty to provide help when it was needed and that the need was likely to continue for some time. Non perishable food can be donated at St Mary’s Church.
