Festive fun for town’s pensioners

Gredley Lunch 2012.

Gredley Lunch 2012.

Bill Gredley, served up yet another winner for Newmarket’s senior citizens as they were treated to three courses of traditional Christmas fare courtesy of the Stetchworth-based businessman.

Over two days, 700 pensioners enjoyed a Christmas lunch in the restaurant at bloodstock auctioneers Tattersalls world- famous Park Paddocks sales complex which has hosted the event for 10 years.

Mr Gredley was on hand to chat to guests and many took the opportunity to thank him personally for his generosity.

And as well as a delicious lunch, guests were treated to entertainment by a Laurel and Hardy tribute act and music from locally-based singer Luan Hockley. There was also a visit from Father Christmas and one of his elves.

Margaret Butcher, one of the organisers, and part of a team of helpers making sure the event ran smoothly, said: “Everyone enjoyed themselves and I have already had some lovely letters saying how much people appreciated the event and how this year’s had been the best yet.”
