An Exning mum has raised £850 for a children’s heart charity appeal by jumping off a 10ft tall building.

Jo Bird, who has signed up to the addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) , took part in a charity abseil off Ely Community College to raise funds for the hospital’s Healing Hearts appeal.

“It was pretty frightening as I don’t like heights,” said Jo, who lives in Beechwood Close and joined the trust after her seven-year-old daughter Ameila was diagnosed with a heart defect three years ago after a routine hospital appointment.

“A small hole in her heart was picked up and she has continued to be scanned by the brilliant equipment Addenbrooke’s Hospital has to offer,” said Jo, “without it the problem would have gone undetected.” To make a donation go to www.justgiving.com/joanne-bird3
