HUNDREDS of students picked up their GCSE results on Tuesday.
Newmarket College students celebrated the best results in six years wth 56 per cent of students getting A* to C grades.
"We are pleased with the results but there is still work to do, particularly with subjects such as English," head teacher Dr Bob Cadwalladr said.
Among to the star performers was 16 year old Newmarket teenager Richenda Jaggard who celebrated two A*s, three As, four Bs and a C.
She said: "I am so happy. I was really scared last night and didn't sleep that much last night.
"I wanted to get this morning out of the way because it's a bit of a waiting game."
Richenda will stay at Newmarket College to study her A-Levels.
At Soham Village College, headteacher Dr Carin Taylor said she was very pleased to have scored another set of successful results, with 75 per cent of students achieving a grade A* to C.
Around 73 per cent of students also celebrated five GCSE passes at A* to C and achieved five GCSE passes at A* to C, including both English and Maths, which equalled last year's record performance by the school.
Star performers with ten grade As and above were Jenny Richards, Rebecca Biss, Alexandra Craven, Charlie Ford, Dale Green, Isabel Rice, Lydia Vince, Matthew Grimster, Christopher Hunt and Hannah Pyrah.
"Once again the governors and staff at the school congratulate our students on their deserved success in 2010," Dr Taylor said.
"We are confident that students are well prepared for the next phase of their education or training and we wish them well."
At Mildenhall College of Technology, record results were recorded.
Students charted 93 per cent of the year group have achieved five or more GCSEs at A* to C.
And 98 per cent of teenagers achieved five or more GCSEs at A* to G which is also a record.
"These results represent a tremendous achievement by the students and also reflect the hard work, energy and commitment put in by the staff," said headteacher Susan Byles.
Outstanding students were Natalie Fuller who took 16 GCSEs with 9A* grades, including the two in maths and English which she sat early in November and 4 As.
She also took an AS Maths module a year early and scored an amazing 96 per cent in it, having studied only at lunchtimes once a week.
Hannah Strathern took 14 GCSEs, with 1 A* and 8 A grades.
Other exceptional performers were Emily Carter with 16 GCSEs, including 2 A* and 10 A grades, Sam Byrne, 16 GCSEs, 2 A* and 5 As and Matthew Skeats with 15 GCSEs, including 5 A grades.
And finally, at Bottisham Village College, 88 per cent of students got at least five passes at grade C or better, 36 per cent of all grades being A*s or As.
on Thursday, hundreds of A-Level students also got their results.
At Newmarket College staff and students alike celebrated an impressive set of results with 53 per cent of students gaining grades at A* to C and 93 percent graded at A* to E.
The average Ucas rating was 297 points, well above the national average of 240 points.
"These excellent results mean that most of our students secured their choice of university place," said head teacher, Dr Bob Cadwalladr.
They are a testament to our students' talents and work, as well as the dedication of their teachers and the support of parents.
"We wish all these young people continued success in their futures at university, training and work.
"Overall the results are better than the national averages and we're really pleased to that we have significantly exceeded our targets."
Star performers at A-Level were Robert Guenigault with three As and a B, Christianne Blackwell with two As, two Bs and a C, Cameron Fay with two As, a B and an E grade and Sarah Dellow who achieved five Bs.
Cameron Fay, 18, from Newmarket, who is hopeful of securing his place at the University of Manchester, said he had enjoyed his time at Newmarket College.
"It's been really good I will miss my relationship with the teachers because they all know us all really well."
After opening his grades he said he was happy with what he had achieved.
At Mildenhall College, results were slightly down on the record passes achieved last year.
Headteacher Susan Byles told the Journal: "Although A-Levels in 2010 have not matched record levels, I am particularly pleased to see how well some students on our BTEC and OCR applied courses have performed.
"A number of these students passed with distinctions and merits equivalent to grades A and B at A-Level.
"Most college students performed in line with college expectations although there were some disappointments and our point scores are not as high this year as we would have liked."
Star performers at Mildenhall College were James Connery, with an A*, two As and two Bs and Emma Burrell with an A, two Bs and a C.
Meanwhile, in Ely, A-level results day meant a double celebration for King's School Ely student, David Wallis who picked up his results on his 18th birthday.
David, with two A*s and two As, confirmed his place at Exeter College, Oxford, where he will read chemistry.
Thirty-eight per cent of King's results were graded A* or A.
David was one of five students to achieve A* or A grades in four subjects.
Overall, 65 per cent of King's results were graded A*-B and 89per cent were graded A*-C in a total of 31 subjects. Overall pass rate was 98 per cent.
