Former professional footballers played in a Lidgate pub’s charity football tournament on Tuesday.

Ex-Newcastle centre forward, now Newmarket trainer, Micky Quinn and former Spurs defender, Mike Dillon, took on staff from Go Bats taxis, Newmarket Sports and Badgers Bloodstock consultants in a six team competition run by The Star at Lidgate on the football pitch behind the pub.

They were raising money for the the Niamh Henry Fairy Wish Fund, which backs specialist children’s wards in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and was set up by the pub’s co-owner, John Henry, in the name of his daughter who died in 2009 after suffering a rare kidney cancer.
