Drugs and alcohol abuse led to man’s death
A 36-year-old roofer from Newmarket died from complications following pneumonia after a history of “chronic” drug and alcohol abuse.
Glynn Edwards, of George Lambton Avenue, died at West Suffolk Hospital on August 12, 2012.
An inquest held in Bury St Edmunds last Tuesday heard Mr Edwards had been admitted to intensive care two days earlier after being found at home by his partner in an “unresponsive state”.
The hearing heard Mr Edward had refused to go to hospital earlier in the day despite being strongly advised by medical staff.
The inquest heard Mr Edwards had been drinking vodka and had taken 100millilitres of methadone and unknown quantities of cocaine.
Coroner Peter Dean gave a narrative verdict tha he died of “complications following pneumonia, occuring against a background of previous drug and alcohol use”.
