Crowd figures across this month’s two-day Craven meeting at Newmarket’s Rowley Mile were significantly up on the corresponding meeting 12 months ago.
The opening day of this year’s meeting on Wednesday, which featured the Group Three Landwades Stud Nell Gwyn Stakes, attracted a crowd of 5,202, a figure 16 per cent higher than last year.
As for Thursday’s fixture, which contained two Group Three contests including the Novae Bloodstock Insurance Craven Stakes, 5,741 passed through the gates, a rise of 24 per cent on the 2013 total.
“These increase in crowd figures reflect on two great days of racing and really set the scene for next month’s Guineas meeting,” said Amy Starkey, Newmarket Racecourses chief.
Looking ahead to next month’s two day Guineas meeting Miss Starkey confirmed advanced ticket sales are going well.
“We are expecting around 30,000 across the two days and pre-sales are really looking good for Sunday’s 1000 Guineas,” said Miss Starkey.
