Councillors’ donations are a life saver for Red Cross

The Newmarket branch of the British Red Cross has been able to buy a piece of lifesaving equipment thanks to donations from three of the town’s councillors.
Suffolk county councillors, Lisa Chambers, pictured right, and Bill Sadler along with district councillor Warwick Hirst, each donated £500 from their locality budget for an automated external defibrilator (AED), which is used to resuscitate patients whose hearts have stopped beating.
Red Cross fundraiser, Jane Dow, said: “This essential piece of lifesaving equipment will be carried by the Newmarket Event First aid team at local events. An AED can mean the difference between life or death if someone’s heart stops beating. We are very grateful to our local cuncillors for enabling us to buy this vital piece of equipment.”
