Council appeal for shots of town’s Memorial Hall

People in Newmarket are being urged to take a trip down memory lane and share any old photographs they might have of the town’s Memorial Hall.

Town councillors are appealing for pictures taken both in and outside the hall on the High Street so they can be displayed in the historic building, which recently had a £1.2 million refurbishment.

“I’m sure many local people will have fond memories of the Memorial Hall because thousands of social functions like weddings, parties and shows have taken place there since it was kindly donated to Newmarket in 1911,” said Cllr Warwick Hirst.

“We feel that displaying photographs of these events for all to see will be a fitting way to acknowledge the building’s history.

“We’re really keen to see similarly striking images to help build a photographic chronology of the building’s past as we launch its future as a modern, affordable venue for the people of Newmarket.”

Photographs taken of or at the Memorial Hall can be uploaded on to facebook.com/NewmarketVenues, emailed to newmarketphoto@gmail.com or posted to Photo Appeal, Memorial Hall, High Street, Newmarket, Suffolk, CB8 8JP by Sunday, March 10.
