A Newmarket firm has raised hundreds of pounds for charity in memory of a former long-serving employee.
Staff at LED lighting manufacturer Dialight, of Exning Road, raised £746 for St Nicholas Hospice Care after former sales customer service administrator Frances ‘Fran’, Emms died in September last year just two months after being diagnosed with cancer. She was 42.
During her last months she spent three weeks at the hospice before moving to a nursing home in Hawstead.
Funds were raised through a Christmas prize draw, which collected £409 and donations in lieu of Christmas cards, which raised £87. A further £160 was raised through a prize draw and £90 from a raffle.
Tracie Crascall, who worked with Fran at Dialight, said: “As a firm we always fund raise throughout the year and then decide which charity to support. Everyone was in agreement that it would be fantastic to support the hospice because Fran was such a big part of Dialight. She had such a sense of humour.”
Julian Purr, also of Dialight, said: “Fran would always make you laugh. It sounds like a cliché but with her it was true – she lit the room up.”
