The annual parishioners’ meeting and the annual meeting of the council were held on Tuesday May 13. Annual reports were given by district and county councillors, the Mildenhall RAF Commander, Suffolk Constabulary and Beck Row Community Association.
Councillor Gary Peachey was re-elected chairman, Cllr Alan Vickerage vice-chairman and the clerk Mrs Jennifer Gates was confirmed as proper officer of the council. Other council members are councillors John Barnes, David Chandler, Sue French, Philip Haylock, Mo Murkin, Kay Sallis, and Maureen Sambridge. Sewage problems were discussed again. There appears to be a difference of opinion between Forest Heath District Council and Anglian Water on how involved in new developments Anglian Water are in determining whether or not current systems are capable of handling extra waste.
Outdoor exercise equipment is now installed on the TocH Land – landscaping of the area to follow.
This is for people of all ages to enjoy. When all the changes to the TocH Land are finished it is planned to put up a new sign and re-name it Carpenter’s Close after those who originally donated the land. It has been a great success with people of all ages making good use of it already. This was made possible with grants from the Big Lottery Fund and donations from the locality budgets of councillors James Waters, David Bowman and Colin Noble.
At the June meeting speeding and safety on the C602 was once again discussed – the Parish Council is working hard to reduce the overall speed limit and to put in place safety measures to encourage drivers to slow down in the 30mph zone.
