Charity is the Festival winner

Charities from the Newmarket area have been celebrating a cash windfall thanks to the organisers of the town’s July Festival activities.

At a special presentation evening held at the town’s Memorial Hall, cheques totalling £5,000 were presented to seven local organsations .

There was £500 each for the Exning-based Stepping Stones nursery and the Little Buds pre-school which is based at Newmarket’s Studlands Park.

Sarah Thompson from Stepping Stones, said it was planning to spend the money on outdoor equipment, including a trampoline, to aid pupils’ physical development and plants for its nature garden. At Little Buds Tanya Sizer said the money would be used to re-furbish the pre-school’s role-play kitchen.

Other awards were made to Suffolk Young Carers which received £500; Newmarket College £1,000; Newmarket Dial-a-Ride £1,000; Newmarket Day Centre £500 and Newmarket’s New Astley Club £1,000. The beneficiaries of this year’s Newmarket Festival were chosen as the Newmarket Town Girls U13 football squad, Street Sports, Newmarket Spice Guides and the Ormiston Trust.
