Charity event raises £3,650 for cancer sufferer
More than £3,500 has been raised by a kind-hearted family from Mildenhall for a boy suffering from a rare form of cancer.
A total of £3,670,38 was collected by Cheryl Feltner and her partner Jason Sharwood for 13-year-old Deryn Blackwell after staging a fundraising event at Mildenhall Social Club earlier this month.
Cheryl, whose son Dawson was diagnosed with leukaemia back in 2010, decided to organise the charity event after Deryn, who lives near Watton, was diagnosed with Langerhans cell sarcoma last year after relapsing while recovering from acute lymphoblastic leukaemia.
“The whole night was absolutely amazing,” said Cheryl.
“We had people queuing out of the doors to get in and Deryn was able to make it, which was fantastic.”
“Deryn’s mum was brought to tears by the support shown by people. She was totally overwhelmed by it.”
All proceeds will now be added to Deryn’s charity DoEveRYthiNg, which currently has a running total of £7,223.57.
