Can you help put names to town cricket club players?

This picture of Newmarket Cricket Club was brought into the Journal office by one of the team’s former players.

Geoff Cunnington, pictured left on the top row, wants to put names to some of the faces in the sporting snap, which was taken around 50 years ago.

Geoff, who was 19 when the photo was taken, explained why he was selected for the team.

“I got into the side because I was a left handed player and I was put into bat first to mess up the bowling,” the 70 year old who lives in Melrose Gardens said.

The former wicket keeper and opening batsman is pictured next to Tom Havers but wants to know the name of the player to Mr Havers’ right.

The rest of the top row is made up of John Charles, Bill Whitaker and Jock McDonald.

Mr Cunnington wants to know the names of three people on the front row, the first player on the left, the third from left and the fifth from left.

The players he does know the names of are, from left, Barry Lynford, Stan Beeby and David Game.

Can you name any of the players?

Anyone who can put names to faces can call the Journal office on 01638 564102. Alternatively, email comment@newmarketjournal.co.uk.
