Book your place on Soham's French trip

FRENCH townspeople from the historic Loire Valley have offered to play host to 30 Soham people as part of an exchange visit.

It is a reciprocal arrangement which saw guests from the French town of Andrezieux-Boutheon visit Soham in May this year.

"They thoroughly enjoyed the region, our hospitality, friendliness and the weather," said Soham town councillor Anne Pallett, who is also chairman of the Soham Twinning Association, which is organising the trip.

"They would like to do the same for us and there is an opportunity for a group of people in this area to enjoy a short trip to our very friendly twinned town in France in the Loire Valley."

The Loire region, often referred to as the Garden of France, is also noted for its architectural heritage, historic towns and its wine-making expertise.

The trip runs from Thursday October 7, to Saturday, October 10, and will include a visit to the region's vineyards and a chance to enjoy the Andrezieux-Boutheon pumpkin fair, an event held in the town annually.

"Those who wish to take this opportunity will be looked after by host families in and around our twinned town," said Cllr Pallett.

"Under the twinning agreement, visitors will only have to pay for their return trip.

"This will be in the region of 100 per person but could be cheaper if flights are booked soon. Accommodation and most meals will be provided."

English-speaking hosts can be arranged for non-French-speaking travellers.
