Bloom may fade as Mildenhall group runs short of members
MEMBERS of a community organisation in Mildenhall are making a urgent appeal for new volunteers to prevent its closure.
At Thursday's Mildenhall Parish Council meeting it was revealed to councillors that Mildenhall In Bloom faces the prospect of shutting up shop for good unless a number of new volunteers come forward to help.
Founded seven years ago by Maureen Kowalyk, the group has taken part in many projects across the town, along with raising funds to help buy street furniture in Mildenhall.
The group has also won several prizes during its time, including two bronze certificates at the Anglia In Bloom awards.
"We have not yet finished and will make a final decision when all our exiting members our back off holiday," said Mrs Kowalyk.
Numbers have dropped off of late due to a number of reasons including work commitments, volunteers moving away from the area and ill-health.
"The idea of the group is getting the community involved and helping others out to make the town a welcome place for visitors.
"What we are after, though, is not just volunteers to help plant flowers – we need volunteers to get involved with the committee."
It is expected that a decision on the group's future will be made in September.
