Benefits cheat set to be sentenced

A Newmarket man will be sentenced at crown court after he admitted falsely claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance, housing and council tax benefits amounting to more than £33,000, from 2008 to July 2012.

Stephen Cairns (44) of Munnings Close, pleaded guilty to eight charges when he appeared before magistrates at Bury St Edmunds last month.

The case was committed to Ipswich Crown Court for sentence.

Cairns will also be sentenced for charges of fraud and theft.

The hearing has been listed for Tuesday, March 26.
