NEWMARKET JOURNAL JAN 2011. GORDON LIANG FROM FITTOCKS STUD WHO IS A NOMINEE IN THE STUD AND STABLE STAFF AWARDS.

THE shortlists for this year’s Stud and Stable Staff Awards are to be revealed within the next fortnight.

Fifty nominees from across five categories will be whittled down to just 15, three in each section, by the judging panel for the Godolphin-backed event over the coming days.

A total of 14 nominees from the Newmarket area have been selected for this year’s awards.

Among those hoping to make the final cut are Gordon Liang, from Fittocks Stud, Upend and Katie Burrell, from Old Mill Stud, Chippenham, both of whom have been nominated for the Stud Staff Award.

Chairing this year’s judging panel will be racing writer Brough Scott.

He will be joined by former champion jockey-turned-trainer, Pat Eddery, former royal trainer Ian Balding, David Redvers, Dinah Nicholson and Judith Allen.

This year’s awards ceremony will take place at the Jumeirah Carlton Tower Hotel, Knightsbridge, on Monday, February 27.

Presenting winners with their awards will be two-times champion jockey Paul Hanagan.

Twenty-four hours before the awards ceremony in London, each of the finalists will be invited to attend a judging day where the panel will decide the winner of each category and the winner of the overall Employee of the Year Award.

Headquarters will be hoping for a repeat of last year’s success which saw David Bradley, head lad to town trainer Jeremy Noseda, land the coveted Employee of the Year prize.
