Supermarket giant Asda is set to open in at the end of next month.
It will take over the premises in Clay Street formerly occupied by Budgens whch closed earlier this month after more than a decade of trading in the town.
Asda spokesman Philip Bartram could not confirm whether Asda would be taking on additional staff but said the 34 people employed by Budgens would be offered jobs at the new store.
Soham county councillor and district councillor James Palmer welcomed the arrival of Asda.
“Budgens was a very well run store, very clean, a delightful store to go in. But will more people shop in Asda than Budgens? I am sure they will. I think it will be a roaring success.”
