Successful businesses will be recognised and celebrated at the Newmarket and District Chamber of Commerce (NDCC) Business Awards 2013.
This year’s awards will take place at The Granary Barns, Woodditton, on November 29, and include a formal dinner and dance. A pre-award evening event will be held on September 25 at The White Hart – come along to find out more about the awards, how to enter and hear the business benefits from a previous winner.
Forest Heath has more than 3,000 registered businesses, all of which are welcome to enter the awards. Your business does not need to be a member of the NDCC - our aim is to celebrate all local businesses.
Each week, with the Newmarket Journal, we are featuring one of our award categories leading up to the event. This week, we feature one of our new awards for 2013 - Business Person of the Year - sponsored by the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce.
The focus of this new award is to acknowledge a local business person who has assisted you with your business, above and beyond the call of duty.
This person must be working within businesses in Forest Heath and can be a member of another large or small local business, or be a freelancer, sole trader, consultant, or an employee of a charity.
It is a nominated award, so entries should include a short outline of why you think this person deserves special recognition.
Graham Abbey, NDCC chairman, said: “A good company is built on the shoulders of its employees, who help create its reputation for delivering, take pride in sharing in its success, and do all they can to make sure the firm exceeds the expectations of its customers.
Barry Peters, editor of Newmarket Journal, added: “It may be you feel this award should recognise the outstanding contribution of one of your own staff. Alternatively, you may be a customer who has had regular dealings with one exceptional employee at a firm. Either way, make sure they don’t miss out on the chance of being recognised for their brilliance.”
John Dugmore, CEO of the Suffolk Chamber of Commerce, said: “We are delighted to sponsor the Business Person of the Year Award and support NDCC at this year’s awards evening.
“Suffolk Chamber is a large, growing chamber. We recognise the importance of those people within local businesses who go that extra mile to ensure their service stands out, and this should be celebrated.
“This award is a tribute to those who do give exceptional customer service. I am sure there will be many diverse nominations and we encourage every business within Forest Heath to think about those who help them make their business a success and to nominate them.”
As the voice of Suffolk businesses, Suffolk Chamber of Commerce supports and represents local business interests both locally and nationally, and is proactive in responding on behalf of these businesses to regional, national and European issues.
The county chamber is heavily involved in several initiatives such as ‘Raising the Bar’, which helps to ensure young people are properly prepared for the workplace and have thriving working lives.
On behalf of local businesses, the chamber has been working with the newly-formed New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership to establish programmes to support local businesses and has also been looking to co-ordinate and manage Business Growth Hubs.
Development of the A14 and A11 road systems remains high on the chamber’s agenda, as does the development of the railway network and broadband coverage network.
Nominations are open now, so head to the NDCC website at www.newmarketanddistrict.co.uk to download an entry form. All nominations should be sent directly to Claire Elbrow at firstname.lastname@example.org, or by calling 01638 731513. The deadline for entries is October 24.
