Appeal after man exposes himself to teenage girl

POLICE are appealing for information after a man indecently exposed himself in front of a teenage girl in Newmarket.

The incident took place in Studlands Park Avenue at around 8.30am on Tuesday, January 31.

A 17-year-old girl was walking along the road when she heard a man shout ‘excuse me’.

As she turned around, the man dropped his trousers before exposing himself. He did this on two occasions before walking off towards shops on the estate.

The man has been described as white, between the age of 28 and 30 and about 5ft 8in tall, with dark hair. He was wearing a dark grey, hooded top, with grey tracksuit bottoms.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information about the incident or has seen anything suspicious,” said Sgt Mark Shipton, of the Newmarket Safer Neighbourhood Team.

Following the incident on Studlands Park Avenue, reports were received on social networking site Facebook of similar incidents taking place in the town towards two 11 year olds.

However, these allegations were proved to be unfounded by the police.

“We’d also like to confirm that this is the only reported incident of exposure this week, as there are some rumours circulating on social networking sites,” said Sgt Shipton.

“We’d like to remind everyone to report such incidents to police in the first instance so we can make the proper inquiries.”

Anyone with information should contact Suffolk Police on 101.
