Former Newmarket trainer Gerard Butler has withdrawn his appeal against a five-year ban imposed by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) after he admitted doping a number of his own horses.

The former Egerton House handler informed the BHA on Thursday through his solicitor that he would not be appealing the ban given to him earlier this month following a BHA inquiry.

Group One winning trainer Butler, 47, admitted seven charges against him relating to anabolic steroids stanozolol and rexogin, designed for use in humans, which were found in nine horses under his care.
