A water company has apologised for flooding in Newmarket caused by a leaking water meter.
Two separate leaks from the same meter in Fred Archer Way caused flooding on the road and pavement in front of Newmarket’s Premier Inn.
Anglian Water said they were due to replace the entire metre today (October 1), carrying out the work during the evening to avoid peak traffic.
Spokeswoman Emma Staples said: “We are very sorry for the time it’s taken to resolve the leaking water meter in Fred Archer Way.
“Two separate leaks on the same meter have occurred in short succession, and we are very sorry for the disruption this has caused.”
She added: “To minimise the chance of this happening again we will be replacing the entire water meter on Tuesday, October 1, and carrying out the work during the evening to avoid peak traffic and minimise the impact on road users.
“We would like to apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and thank customers for their patience.”
