Anglers taking part in a fishing match at a Holywell Row fishery have helped raise more than £2,300 for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
Eight anglers, including former speedway rider Barrie Evans, joined Stuart Harrison and Stewart Alderton for a six-hour team contest on Saturday at Jeagor Farm, for the last leg of their 24 hour match.
Stewart’s team took the win weighing in with a total of 148lb, while the outright individual honours went the way of Robert Coleman with 66lb.
Although his team tasted defeat in the six-hour match over the 24 hour period Stuart gained revenge in the total amount caught over the 24 hour period weighing in with 130lb compared to Stewart’s 64lb. Following on from the match 50 prizes were raffled off including a £100 feeder rod, donated by Benwick Sports in Soham, and £50 food hamper which was handed over by Manchetts in Burwell.
“We were very surprised at how much we raised from such a small group of people, but I think we raised as much as we did as it is going to a charity that many people feel is a worthy cause,” said Stuart.
