All Elvedon crash update: Man arrested and detained under Mental Health Act

A man arrested on suspicion of aggravated vehicle taking following a collision on the A11 near Elveden has been bailed and detained under the Mental Health Act.

Police were called to reports of a two-vehicle collision on the A11 close to the junction of the B1106 Elveden crossroads at 2.25pm on Saturday.

A 29-year-old man from Coventry, who was driving a VW Golf, was arrested and taken into police custody for aggravated vehicle taking.

The man, who was subsequently arrested for dangerous driving and attempted murder, was bailed yesterday (Tuesday) and detained under the Mental Health Act.

He is due to return to the Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre on February 20.

Two adults and three children, who were travelling in the second vehicle, a Toyota Yaris, were injured during the collision.

The male driver, who is in his 40s, was taken to West Suffolk Hospital and is described as being in a stable condition.

A female passenger, also aged in her 40s, was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Two teenage girls remain in a stable condition at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and a further teenage girl was taken to West Suffolk Hospital, but has since been discharged.

Witnesses to this collision are asked to call PC Danny Ormes at the Serious Collision Investigation Team on 101.
