Actors bid to cut it at Fringe

THE cast of a Soham amateur dramatics group is preparing for the big time as it gears up to take part in one of the world's most famous arts festivals.

Blueshed Productions, which is based at Blueshed Studios in Regal Lane, has put together a production of the 1960s film The Little Shop of Horrors, which will be performed at the three week Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The group is currently raising money to take the cast and band up to the popular event, in Scotland's capital.

The production, originally written by Charles B Griffith and directed by Roger Corman, is a black comedy, which features a cast including the infamous venus fly-trap-like plant, which has an unhealthy craving for human blood, a crazy dentist and geeky florist.

One of the producers, 18-year-old Soham teenager Daniel Bell, said: "The Edinburgh Fringe is the most famous arts festival in the world.

"It is going to be really exciting but I am also very nervous.

"We have been working very, very hard in rehearsals, sometimes from 10am to 10pm."

"This is the first year we are taking up our own show to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. It's something we've always wanted to do.

"It's a huge task to undertake for young people of our age and we are all very excited having never performed up at the Festival before."

To help fund the trip, the group is hosting a performance on Friday, August 6, at 7.30pm at Beechurst Hall, Soham Village College.

Tickets are priced at 5 and all profits go to their much-needed funds for the trip.

Blueshed Studios was opened in January 2009 by father and son Steve and Nigel Thompson.

The Edinburgh Festival Fringe has been running for 63 years and is widely acknowledged to be the biggest arts festival in the world and takes place every August for three weeks.
