£84,000 play area opens in Mildenhall

YOUNGSTERS from across Mildenhall braved the wet weather on Wednesday to celebrate the opening of a new £84,000 playpark.

Joining children for the official opening of the new play area at Douglas Park, Comet Way, were representatives from Forest Heath District Council and Mildenhall Parish Council.

Performing the ribbon-cutting honours were Cllr John McGhee, chairman of Forest Heath Council and Cllr Brian Sulman, chairman of Mildenhall Parish Council.

Funding for the five-figure project has come from Forest Heath's Capital Programme and Suffolk County Council's Play Builder Scheme.

Among the items included on the new site are a hurricane swing, spider web climbing frame and a tunnel slide.

A new improved ball games area and cycle track have also been marked out, while a wildflower area has also been created as part of the project.

Cllr Simon Flack, Forest Heath member champion for outreach projects for young people, said: "This is a brilliant new play area with suitable areas for children of different ages to play in a safe environment and have fun."
