A date has been decided for the first six of horse racing’s most famous names to be cemented in Newmarket’s pavements.

Sir Henry Cecil, Frankel, Hyperion, Fred Archer, Lester Piggott and Sir John Astley will be honoured in special paving slabs in the High Street at a ceremony on July 9 at 11am.

Around £100,000 is expected to be poured into the Legends of the Turf project, which is backed by Newmarket Town Council, Forest Heath District Council and Suffolk County Council.
