Have your say

It is with deep regret that we record the death of Mr Samuel Westley who passed away at his residence, Gwynne House in Palace Street exactly a month after his wife, whos e death occurred on April 30th.

For many years Mr Westley had been a prominent figure in the life of the town and was held in great respect. he carried on a large business as a builder for a considerable period but retired many years ago. For a number of years during one of the busiest and important periods in the town’s municipal history, he was a member of the Urban District Council and he was one of the senior directors of the Newmarket Gas Company.

He also owned a great deal of property in High Street, Palace Street and other parts of the town. Though he did not take an active part in politics he had been vice-chairman of the Newmarket Liberal Club ever since its foundation. He leaves two daughters who have the heartfelt sympathy of the whole community.
