Twenty German veterinary surgeons received an insight into the racing world on Monday after getting a behind the scenes tour of Newmarket.

The visit, which was arranged by the Newmarket Experience, saw the party take in many of the town’s unique sights.

After spending a morning on the gallops, the group then toured the Hamilton Road yard belonging to German- born trainer Ilka Gansera Leveque.

“They were really interested in how the yard operates and how we feed horses in training,” said the Saffron House Stables handler, who is also a fully qualified vet.

“Some of them were racing fans, but I hope that the visit encouraged others to start
following racing and perhaps follow my horses.”

Following on from their visit of Ilka’s yard, the group concluded their tour of the town by visiting both the Newmarket Equine Hospital and the National Stud.
