Fundraisers pulled on their trainers and their onesies to as they celebrated the nation’s favourite sports days and ran, walked, hopped or bounced a mile for Sport Relief.
The national biennial televised sports event sponsored by Sainsbury’s raised a staggering £51 million for charities at home and abroad with events across the Newmarket area all helping towards the grand total.
At Exning Primary School, pupils made a donation to run round the school field in onesies or pyjamas and raised £296.
Bottisham Village College students and staff completed the Sport Relief Mile on foot and on Space Hoppers.
Their athletic efforts coupled with money collected through donations not to wear school uniform, from sales at a cake stall and the sale of official wristbands collected £1,202.96.
The Sport Relief Mile came to Kennett for the first time with super sprinters and willing walkers given a choice of completing one, three or six miles.
And at Newmarket Leisure Centre runners also had the choice of different distances to test their stamina.
