A former Newmarket nightclub proprietor is to appear at crown court later this month after being charged with grievous bodily harm.

Peter Crotty, pictured, who ran former town nightclub De Niro’s, and was also associated with The Gym Bar in the High Street, is to appear at Ipswich Crown Court on Thursday.

The 33 year old was committed to crown court on Monday by magistrates sitting at West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court in Bury St Edmunds.

Crotty, who lives in Nimbus Way, was arrested in the town on Saturday after police were called to reports of a man sustaining head injuries after falling to the ground in the High Street near to the junction with The Avenue.

He was released on bail with a 10pm-7am curfew and ordered not to go to the Aura bar in Newmarket.

The victim was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge where he remains in a critical but stable condition.

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and who may have seen the man fall.

Anyone with information should contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101.
