A man arrested by police following an attempted robbery at a business in Newmarket this afternoon, Tuesday 17 November, has been further arrested in connection with robberies at a bank and a betting shop in the town.

Officers were called just after 1.40pm today to reports that a man had entered a premises in The Rookery with a knife.

Police, including armed response units, attended the scene and a 52-year-old man from Newmarket was arrested on suspicion of robbery just before 2pm.

Two Taser weapons were discharged during the course of the arrest.

No staff or members of the public were harmed as a result of this incident.

The man has been taken to Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre where he will be questioned by detectives.

The incidents he has been further arrested on suspicion of are: an armed robbery at a bank in High Street on Thursday 12 November; and an attempted robbery at a betting shop in Valley Way on Tuesday 3 November.
