Watch out for fuel thieves, say police
POLICE are urging residents across the Mildenhall area to remain alert after more than £400 worth of fuel was taken from two properties.
Between 1pm last Wednesday and 9am the following morning thieves stole around 300 litres of heating oil from a house in Undley Common near Lakenheath.
After cutting through a pipe on the tank, they syphoned off oil worth around £200.
Earlier that week police received reports of around 370 litres of red diesel being stolen from a farm in The Street, Worlington.
Intruders cut locks on the gate using a bolt cropper before cutting a lock on a fuel pump to release the diesel.
The thieves also broke a wheel clamp on a horse box, causing around £100 worth of damage.
“Theft of heating oil and fuel can be a particular problem in the winter,” said Sgt Mark Shipton of the Newmarket Safer Neighbourhood Team.
“We’d like to remind residents to report any suspicious activity – paying particular attention to suspicious vehicles and recording number plates.”
Anyone with information on either incident should contact Suffolk Police on 101.
