Police in new plea for help over sex attack

POLICE have renewed an appeal for information after an allegation of sexual assault in a Newmarket car park.

A 21-year-old woman claimed the incident happened in a car park in Queensbury Road between 2.30am and 4.15am on Sunday, January 8.

The woman had been out with friends in the town when she went to collect belongings from her car, which had been left in the car park.

She claimed a man, who had walked with her to the car park, attacked her when they reached the vehicle.

The man is described as white and of Mediterranean origin, tall, of medium build, in his early 20s, clean-shaven, with thick, black, short, wavy hair. He was wearing dark jeans and a dark hooded-type jacket with a light-coloured shirt underneath.

Leading the investigation, DC Jacquelin Mumford said: “The victim had been in De Niro’s nightclub prior to the incident so it is possible that the offender met her inside and spent time with her there before they walked to the car park.

“Their journey would have taken them down the High Street, into The Avenue before turning into Queensbury Road.

“We are appealing for anyone who may have seen a man similar to the one described in De Niro’s or walking with a woman along the mentioned route to get in contact immediately.”

Anyone with information in relation to this incident is asked to contact DC Jacquelin Mumford at Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
