Man failed to pay for petrol three times

A MAN who drove off from a Newmarket garage without paying for petrol three times in a month has been banned from driving.

Magistrates sitting in Bury St Edmunds on Tuesday heard that Azoun Limmage, of Icewell Hill, Newmarket, had taken his girlfriend’s car to the Hyperion garage, in Bury Road, and was driving without a licence or insurance when he committed the offences.

The 22 year old pleaded guilty to two charges of making off without payment, three charges of driving without a licence and three charges of driving without insurance. A further charge of making off without payment was taken into consideration.

Tessa Mann, prosecuting, told the court that Limmage had filled up his girlfriend’s car on November 8, November 19 and November 26 with a total of £161.64-worth of petrol, and driven off without paying.

The court heard that Limmage was also stopped on November 28 on the B1506 for driving without a licence.

She said Limmage had a “considerable” number of previous convictions for dishonesty, driving without insurance and driving without a licence.

Michael Whatley, representing Limmage, said he had continuing mental health problems and had been referred to Newmarket Mental Health Team. He said Limmage had a positive attitude to the help he had received from the probation service.

Presiding magistrate Diane Allum told Limmage: “We don’t want to see you back here any more. Keep out of trouble.”

Limmage was ordered to serve a 12-month community order with supervision, and a requirement that he spend 60 days in a Thinking Skills Programme.

He received 18 points on his licence and was disqualified from driving for nine months. He was also ordered to pay compensation to Hyperion garage of £161.64 and court costs of £50.
