Cheating husband hit wife in face

A CHEATING husband hit his wife in the face when she challenged him about an affair, a court heard.

David Middleton, formerly of The Presidents, Beck Row, was fined £500 by district judge David Cooper sitting at West Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, Bury St Edmunds, on Monday, after previously being found guilty of assaulting his wife Marianne.

At a previous hearing, Middleton, who now lives in Kent, had denied the assault charge.

Nikki Miller, prosecuting, told the court that the incident between the pair, who had been married for two years, took place on August 24 after Mrs Middleton had returned from a night out with friends in Manchester.

The court heard that throughout the night Middleton sent a number of text messages to his wife claiming he was sleeping with another woman.

Following her return the next day, Mrs Middleton discovered the bed linen had been changed and a woman’s necklace in the couple’s bedroom.

After confronting her husband, Mrs Middleton threw a coffee cup at him in anger.

Dodging the cup, Middleton then pinned her against the wall before hitting her in the face on two occasions leaving her with marks around her throat and on her right cheek.

Middleton was arrested by police shortly after leaving the house.

In addition to the fine Middleton was ordered to pay his wife £250 in compensation, £620 towards court costs and a £15 victim surcharge.

He was also given a two-year restraining order preventing him from contacting Mrs Middleton at her home address and at work.
