New play equipment has been unveiled in Cheveley and dedicated to the memory of a former parish council chairman who helped secure the grant to pay for it.
Cllr Roderick ‘Rick’Humphries was current vice-chairman of the parish council when he died suddenly last month at the age of 72.
Parish clerk Dianne Marshall said he had been instrumental in securing a £28,000 grant towards the cost of the new equipment from the community fund run by waste management firm AmeyCespa.
“It is often the fate of good men not to see their ambitions and goals achieved in their lifetime,” said council chairman David Keith.
“Without his tireless work, which took up a significant proportion of his time, the children and young people of Cheveley would not have the new play equipment so recently installed and now being enjoyed.
