Councillors will decide next week whether to contribute towards the cost of new security fencing at the town’s New Cheveley Road allotments site.
Over the summer the site has been the victim of several arson attacks which have prompted an increased police presence. Cllr Warwick Hirst said he had had discussions with allotment holders over a proposal for a new chain link fence round the site costing £3,400. He suggested the council contribute £1,700 towards it. “We have responsibility for security at the allotments,” he said.
