A Newmarket nursery has won glowing praise from a county council for making a “huge impression” during its latest Ofsted inspection.

Colourbox Montessori Nursery School, in South Drive, off Exning Road, has been rated “outstanding” by Government inspectors from the Office for Standards in Education.

The nursery received the top rating of “outstanding” for meeting the needs of children, contributing to the well-being of children, and for the effectiveness of leadership and management.

In a letter to the nursery, Alison Manning, head of early years and childcare service at Suffolk County Council, said: “You clearly made a huge impression with the inspector as your report continually highlights the outstanding care you deliver.

“We very rarely read a report which sets the bar so high.”

She added: “We are very fortunate and proud that you are in Suffolk serving our families. It’s the work of successful teams which underpins continuous quality improvement.”

In her report, inspector Sarah Clements said: “Children flourish at the nursery school and make rapid progress in relation to their starting points.

“The quality of teaching and provision for children to be independent in their play and care routines are exceptional.

“Children experience an extensive range of stimulating and challenging activities that are truly tailored to their next steps in learning and individual interests.”

She praised the nursery’s team of staff, particularly the “inspirational” special educational needs coordinator, who she said “demonstrates an extensive knowledge of how to meet each child’s individual needs”.

She said: “Staff are successful in creating a calm, nurturing and child-orientated environment in which children feel immensely comfortable, safe and secure.

“Staff are excellent role models and adopt a highly consistent and positive approach to promoting children’s behaviour. Children are extremely well behaved and understand the importance of respecting others.”

Colourbox Montessori Nursery School was registered in 1993. It employs 26 members of staff who look after 179 children.

Sandra Copping, operations manager, said: “We are all delighted with the outstanding result from the Ofsted inspection. The whole team works incredibly hard to make sure the needs of every child are met. We are delighted with Ofsted for giving us such an amazing report.”
