Council could get bigger

Villagers in Kentford could soon see the size of their parish council increase.

Forest Heath District Council has launched a review during which residents, councillors and other interested parties will be consulted on proposals to increase the number of parish councillors from five to seven.

Forest Heath District Council’s cabinet member for resources, governance and performance, Cllr Stephen Edwards, said: “Any changes in the parish’s electoral arrangements must reflect what is best for the community – in terms of improved local democracy, greater community engagement and better local service delivery. I would urge electors and other interested parties to have their say during the consultation.”

The initial consultation began on Monday and runs until May 16. There will be a further opportunity to comment on the draft proposal for governance after it has been published and before it is made final.
