Could Newmarket be the next town to be immortalised as a famous Monopoly board?

It is among six other East Anglian towns which have been short listed by the makers of the game for the honour but people across the town are being urged to vote.

And rumours are afoot Newmarket Racecourse could be ‘Mayfair’ - the most valuable location on the board - should the town get the nod.

It faces competition from Bury St Edmunds, Colchester, Yarmouth, King’s Lynn and Sudbury.

The winning town will be announced in the spring, with the hope it will be on sale October this year.

Custom games development executive Emma Lodwick said :“The factors that will decide are two-fold. Firstly the strength of popular feeling and pride for a particular place. Secondly, the diversity and beauty of potential landmarks to fill the board.”
