Plans to transform a former dvd and game rental store in Mildenhall into a coffee shop have been granted by district planning officials.
An application submitted on behalf of coffee shop chain Costa by Antony Tagliamonti of A&I Scoffs Group Ltd.
It was given the green light by planning officers at Forest Heath District Council earlier this month.
Under the proposals, the coffee shop chain, which was founded in 1971 by brothers Sergio and Bruno Costa and currently has more than 1,700 shops in operation nationwide, will move into the building formerly occupied by Blockbuster Video in St Andrew’s Street.
The store has stood vacant since November last year, after the video chain went into administration at the beginning of 2013.
“Costa, the nation’s favourite coffee shop brand, are pleased to announce that we are looking to open a brand new store in Mildenhall in mid-February, bringing eight to 10 new jobs to the local area,” said a spokeswoman from Costa.
“The store will be run by one of our franchise partners, a local businessperson in the area.”
She added: “They will do all that they can to integrate the new store with the local community, getting involved with events, providing the store as a meeting place and helping with fundraising.”
