Cookery course could prove a recipe for success

Budding bakers will have the chance to put their cake making skills to the test on Saturday in the inaugural Great Mildenhall Bake-Off.

The competition, which has been organised by the Mildenhall and District Lions Club, will take place at the town’s Jubilee Centre between 11am and 12.30pm, with the winners announced at 2.30pm.

It will feature eight classes, including one for those under the age of 12, and will be judged by leading local chefs James Fairchild, Scott Taylor and Ged Sharrocks.

“The whole idea came about from our secretary Kirsti Fox and she has put a lot of work into getting this sorted,” said Brian Sulman, president of the branch.

“With competitors entering on the day you are never quite sure how it will go,
however when I handed out flyers in the town there seemed to be a positive response.”

All proceeds raised from the event will be donated to leading ovarian cancer charity Ovacome.

“While every cancer charity is a worthy one we decided to choose Ovacome as it is one of the lesser known ones,” said Mr Sulman.

“It is hard to put a figure on what we hope to raise but whatever we do collect I
am sure they will be grateful of. “
