Joan Broomfield (formerly Cunnington) died at the Midfield Lodge care home in Oakington on October 10. She was 89.
Born in Sheffield, she moved to Newmarket 65 years ago and went on to own Cunnington’s General Store in St Mary’s Square in the town.
A member of the Dunkirk Veterans’ Association and a volunteer with the WRVS, she also enjoyed watching ballroom dancing, something she excelled in during her youth.
Her first husband, Stan Cunnington, died in 1985. She remarried again in 1989 to Dennis Broomfield but sadly was widowed again in 2004.
Mrs Broomfield leaves her only son, Geoff, three grandsons, Julian, Glenn and Ross, and two great-granddaughters, Mia and Daisy.
Her funeral was held on October 17 at St Philip’s Chapel, Newmarket, and the Rev Dr Colin McCarty conducted the service.

The funeral of Edward Cobbold took place at St Martin’s Church, Exning, on October 24.
Mr Cobbold, known as Ted, of Melrose Gardens, Newmarket, died at Newmarket Community Hospital on October 15 after a short illness. He was 85.
Born in Exning, he later lived in Newmarket and was educated at the village and town schools respectively.
During the war he served with the Army Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers and toured Italy and Egypt.
Mostly an electronic engineer by trade, he worked for some years at Newmarket Microsystems.
He was also very clever with his hands and was particularly interested in building musical instruments including violins, violas and cellos .
Mr Cobbold is survived by his wife, Shirley.
The service was taken by the Rev Dr Colin McCarty and David Pugh was the organist.

Dennis Arthur Nunn, who was known as Joe, died at his home in Martin Road, Burwell, on October 14 after a short illness. He was 77.
Born in Burwell, he had worked as a refuse collector. He enjoyed bowling and darts at Burwell Royal British Legion, fishing and listening to Daniel O’Donnell.
Mr Nunn is survived by his wife, Veronica, and leaves a daughter, Petula, a granddaughter, Jemma, and grandson, Thomas.
His funeral took place at the Burwell Cemetery Chapel on October 26. The Rev Eleanor Williams officiated.
