Four friends from Soham are raising thousands of pounds for the East Anglian Air Ambulance by cycling from London to Paris.
Former schoolmates Nathan Sherriff, Steve Avory, Paul Skinner and AJ Fleet, all 27, are taking on the 300-mile marathon ride next month.
The foursome – who first met at primary school and attended Soham Village College together – admit their fundraising epic has come at a busy period in their lives.
Nathan is getting married in September, AJ is building two houses in Mereside with his brother, and Paul, of Dobede Way, an RAF Lakenheath fireman, also runs a fire protection business in Soham.
The four have already collected £5,900 through fundraising events, but are targeting £10,000 for their journey from July 23 to 26.
A race night in August at the Ross Peers Centre proved successful, raising £1,625, and they raised more than £1,000 at Newmarket Racecourses by placing buckets at the exits.
Nathan, of East Fen Common, who works for Atom Technologies in Soham, said: “We are very surprised at people’s generosity.
“It’s amazing the number of people who go back into their pockets and get out another pound or two when they see it’s for the air ambulance.
“They have been really helpful by coming up with ideas for fundraising events and giving us merchandise to sell. They are a really organised outfit.”
Nathan has to fit in training with working full-time and planning his wedding to long-term girlfriend Kirsty. “She’s finishing a degree so she has got so much on, too, but we are getting there,” he said.
