Soham is gearing itself up for showtime as the date is announced for this year’s Carnival and Heavy Horse Show.
This is the event’s 62nd year and is aiming to draw large crowds to a full day of heavy horses and carnival fun on May 25.
This year the Carnival committee, alongside the Soham and Ely Journal, are looking not only for a Carnival Princess and her attendants but also a Carnival Prince.
Kate Bavester, secretary of the Soham Benevolent Association which organises the event, said: “We thought that in this world of equality and diversity we should run a Prince competition as well.”
Entry forms will be available in the Soham and Ely Journal from Thursday, March 26, and schools are being notified in the search for youngsters aged seven to 12.
Carnival organisers are also looking for nominations for Townsperson of the Year.
If you know an unsung hero or heroine or someone who does a lot for the community here in Soham please put their names foward.
Entry forms are available in schools, pubs, the library, Co-op, Soham Town Football Club and Asda.
The fun kicks off at the Recreation Ground in Fountain Lane with the heavy horse show in the morning followed by the Carnival parade. MSI - Moto Stunts International will put on a display of motorcycle, quadbike and car stunts and there are displays by a dog search and rescue team, BMX and Scooter competitions, live music, magic, majorette displays, stalls and food.
Miss Bavester said: “Soham still has an appetite for Carnival fun.” Contact email@example.com for more details.
