A Newmarket vet and racehorse trainer has been awarded nearly £12,000 for new medical equipment, a horsebox, enhanced IT facilities and security equipment.
Ilka Gansera Leveque is also a specialist in equine psychology and her funding has come from the New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership’s (LEP) Growing Business Fund.
Ilka started her business three years ago and offers work experience for the local community, takes first year veterinary students for hands-on experience and supports the racing community through events such as Newmarket Open Day and hosting groups from Discover Newmarket, who run behind the scenes tours of the racing industry in Newmarket.
Richard Glinn business growth adviser for West Suffolk said: “Ilka and her staff work incredibly hard; a typical day starts at 4.15am and finishes at 11pm seven days a week, in all weathers.
“Ilka is ambitious; she wants her business to grow, take on more horses, increase her client base and employ more staff. She has a sensible plan. All these factors were pointing towards eligibility for a grant from the Growing Business Fund.”
“This grant has allowed my business to expand, taking it to the next level of growth by attracting new horse owners,” said Ilka. “This in turn creates extra employment, opens up new opportunities and allows us to contribute more fully to the Newmarket economy and the sustainable racing economy as envisaged by the Newmarket Vision.”
