Residents in south Cambridgeshire will have their green bins collected just once a month until March to help save £400,000.

The move has been introduced by the district Council as part of the £1.1 million of savings it aims to achieve by April.

A decision to reduce the green bin collections throughout December, January and February, was made by the council due the 50 per cent less garden waste which is collected during these months.

“With less waste in green bins over the winter, and even fewer green bins put out overall, it makes sense to reduce collections for a limited period,” said Cllr Mick Martin, the council’s lead councillor for waste.
